21-year-old Kenyan songstress Joy Ciru, better known by her stage name Savinnah, has signed a deal with Universal Music Kenya.

Savinnah is a soulful and mellow artist who plays several instruments, including the guitar and the piano. She discovered her gift for singing in the shower, and her journey as a musician began there.

In a statement, Savinnah said that she has loved music for as long as she can remember. “My most vivid memory of how it started is 5-year-old me performing Hips Don’t Lie by Shakira,” she said.

“Though I was just a baby and failed to understand I had no hips to lie or tell the truth. Growing in a family of music lovers, made this dream a little easier to realize, my dad unknowingly started my day to school with a rich menu of music in his car, though a cliché, this made me the person I am artistically.”

Savinnah said that she has always been skeptical of her own music, but she is grateful for the opportunity to release her debut single with Universal Music Group.

“As an unknown artist, having to release my debut single with UMG is a fete that only continues to assure me that I am on the right path,” she said.

John Andrews, the General Manager of Universal Music Group Kenya, said that he was immediately drawn to Savinnah’s music. “What caught my attention about the artiste was how seamlessly she transcended from one note to another,” he said.

“The young lady that answered was a joy not only as a artist but as a person. If you’re lucky enough to know Joy Ciru, then you will surely appreciate Savinnah, she is amazing. The decision to sign her to the UMG family was a no-brainer and this girl is one for the ages.”

Universal Music Group Kenya has a long history of success in Kenya, having worked with some of the country’s biggest names, such as Ethic Entertainment, Muthaka, and Nikita. The company has also helped African artists like Nasty C and Tiwa Savage grow to global status.

Savinnah’s signing with Universal Music Group Kenya is a major step forward in her career. With the company’s support, she is well-positioned to achieve her goals and make a mark on the music industry.
