- President William Ruto strongly condemned Iran’s missile and drone strikes on the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and other Middle Eastern nations.
- Ruto warned that the widening conflict threatens global peace and security.
- He called for immediate multi-stakeholder engagement to de-escalate tensions.
- Over 200 people have been killed and 700 injured in the ongoing Iran crisis.
President William Ruto on Monday condemned the recent attacks by Iran on several Middle Eastern countries, describing the conflict’s regional spread as a serious threat to international peace.
“Kenya strongly condemns the strikes on the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Oman, Kuwait, Jordan, and Bahrain,” Ruto said. “It is evident that the regionalisation of this conflict poses a grave threat to global stability.”
The President stressed the importance of multilateral institutions in addressing the crisis and urged urgent dialogue among all stakeholders to reduce tensions.
“At this defining and perilous moment in global history, longstanding multilateral institutions remain indispensable frameworks for resolving the current Middle East crisis,” he added.
The remarks follow coordinated military action by the United States and Israel targeting Iran. During the operation, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was reportedly killed. In retaliation, Tehran launched ballistic missiles and drone strikes across neighbouring countries, including the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, and Kuwait.
The attacks have so far resulted in more than 200 deaths and over 700 injuries, highlighting the rapid escalation of the situation.
In light of the conflict, the State Department for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs has urged Kenyans living in the region to remain alert. Diaspora Affairs PS Roseline Njogu warned that the situation is fluid and could change suddenly.
“The Government of Kenya is closely monitoring the evolving security situation in parts of the Middle East,” Njogu said. “We urge all Kenyan citizens residing in, or planning to travel to, the region to exercise heightened vigilance.”
PS Njogu also advised Kenyans to register with their nearest embassy or consulate to ensure they receive timely updates and support if the situation worsens.
President Ruto emphasised that resolving the crisis will require coordinated efforts from the global community. His message underscores Kenya’s commitment to promoting peace and stability, while urging immediate diplomatic intervention to prevent further escalation.
