  • Charlene Ruto, President William Ruto’s third-born, revealed her educational path was guided by her father’s belief in Kenyan schools.
  • She attended Moi Girls High School, Eldoret, where she served as chapel prefect.
  • Her father preferred she study locally rather than in expensive international institutions.
  • Charlene later earned a bachelor’s in Mass Communication from Daystar University.

Speaking at her alma mater, Moi Girls High School on Friday, February 27, Charlene Ruto explained why she opted for public education despite her father’s prominence. She said her schooling in Kenya was a conscious decision by her parents.

“My father is a believer in this education system,” Charlene said. “All the time I meet people, and they ask why I didn’t go to international schools, or outside the country for high school. But he has always had faith in our Kenyan system.”

Charlene reflected on her experience at Moi Girls High School, where she was a chapel prefect. She noted that her father’s status never influenced her schooling choices, and she enjoyed her time at the institution.

“I loved my journey at Moi Girls High School. It shaped who I am today,” she said, emphasising the positive impact the school had on her personal growth.

After completing secondary school, Charlene continued her studies locally, earning a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication at Daystar University.

She then pursued an MBA in Hospitality Management at Les Roches International School in Switzerland, broadening her academic experience internationally while maintaining strong roots in Kenya’s education system.

Charlene’s story highlights a commitment to local education and reflects her father’s confidence in Kenya’s schools, demonstrating that high-profile families can still embrace national systems.
