  • TikTok removed more than 580,000 videos in Kenya between July and September 2025.
  • The company said the content breached its Community Guidelines.
  • Nearly all the videos were deleted before users reported them.
  • About 90,000 live streams were also stopped during the same period.
  • The latest figures follow earlier bans and removals reported in the first quarter of 2025.

TikTok has disclosed that it pulled down over 580,000 videos posted by Kenyan users during the third quarter of 2025.

In a report released on Tuesday, February 17, the social media platform said the affected posts went against its rules on acceptable content. The removals covered the period between July and September.

According to the company, 99.7 per cent of the videos were removed before anyone flagged them. It also noted that 94.6 per cent were deleted within 24 hours of upload.

Apart from recorded videos, TikTok also hosts live broadcasts. Around 90,000 live sessions were cut short for failing to meet the platform’s standards.

The company said the interrupted streams accounted for about one per cent of all live sessions conducted in Kenya during that time.

TikTok explained that it relies on a mix of automated systems and human moderators to detect and remove harmful content quickly. The platform works with thousands of safety experts to review posts and ensure compliance with its policies.

The company stated that these measures are meant to protect users and limit the spread of misinformation, hate speech, and other prohibited material.

The latest update comes months after TikTok reported another major enforcement action earlier in the year.

In the first quarter of 2025, the platform banned more than 43,000 accounts in Kenya and deleted over 450,000 videos. At the time, TikTok said 92.1 per cent of the removed videos were taken down before they received any views.

It also noted that 94.3 per cent of the posts were deleted within a day of being shared, showing continued efforts to monitor activity in real time.

TikTok maintains that its goal is to create a secure environment for users while enforcing its Community Guidelines consistently. By combining technology and human oversight, the platform says it can act swiftly against rule-breaking content.

The new figures highlight the scale of moderation taking place in Kenya as the company continues to tighten control over what appears on its platform.
