Kenya’s digital space has received a major boost after two local TikTok creators were featured among the world’s top online influencers for 2026.

Trevor Were and Cherie Kihato secured positions on TikTok’s Global Discover List, which highlights 50 creators who are changing conversations and building strong careers through short-form content. Their inclusion signals the growing impact of Kenyan talent in the global creative industry.

Trevor Were, known to many as @saute_with_trevor, earned his spot under the Foodies category. From his Nairobi kitchen, he shares simple but exciting recipes, turning everyday meals into eye-catching dishes that appeal to a wide audience.

His creativity and steady content have attracted loyal followers, helping him grow beyond Kenya’s borders.

As part of the recognition, Trevor is set to participate in the TikTok x Food Network Future of Flavour event in New York. The event will give him a chance to showcase Kenyan cuisine to a global audience.

Speaking about the milestone, Trevor described the nomination as a great honour, saying he never expected his kitchen experiments to open doors to worldwide recognition and partnerships with brands.

Cherie Kihato was listed in the Originators category. She is the founder of Savannah Space, a Nairobi-based brand that focuses on African-inspired furniture and interior design.

Through her TikTok content, Cherie celebrates African culture, art, and heritage. Her work has attracted attention from audiences abroad, helping her expand her business internationally while encouraging other creatives to share their stories.

Trevor and Cherie are among five creators from Sub-Saharan Africa featured on the 2026 list. Others include Nigerian medical educator Olawale Ogunlana and South African entrepreneurs Wayne Chang and Tamia Nontsikelelo.

The Discover List recognises creators across five groups: icons, innovators, foodies, educators, and originators. These individuals are praised for influencing industries, building strong communities, and creating lasting impact through digital platforms.

TikTok’s Global Head of Content Operations, James Stafford, noted that this year’s selection celebrates creators who inspire others and redefine what success looks like in the online world.
