Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called for a thorough investigation into the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Speaking during a church service at PCEA Utawala on Sunday, February 22, 2026, Kalonzo said the country deserves clear answers. He noted that lingering questions will only be resolved through a formal inquest.
According to him, the matter should not be left to speculation, and Kenyans need to know the truth about what happened.
Kalonzo’s remarks come days after Siaya Governor James Orengo made strong statements during a rally in Kakamega.
Orengo claimed that Raila did not die of natural causes and suggested that unnamed individuals were responsible. He also alleged that those he suspects are now working to weaken the Orange Democratic Movement, the party Raila founded and led for nearly two decades.
The governor has repeated similar claims before, including during a press briefing after Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna was removed as ODM Secretary General. He has promised to speak in detail at the right time.
Raila’s sister, Ruth Odinga, who was present during his final moments, has also hinted that more details will be shared in future. She said the public would eventually learn what led to her brother’s death.
Similarly, Cleophas Malala, the deputy party leader of the Democracy for Citizens Party, has questioned whether the veteran leader died of natural causes.
These statements have fueled public debate and added pressure for official clarification.
However, Raila’s long-serving aide Dennis Onyango has rejected claims of wrongdoing.
He explained that the former Prime Minister had been undergoing medical treatment both locally and abroad. While acknowledging that Raila was managing certain health conditions, Onyango said he was stable and not in critical condition before his passing.
He firmly ruled out foul play, urging the public not to spread unverified claims.
As political leaders continue to speak out, the issue has taken centre stage in national discourse.
Kalonzo’s proposal for a formal inquiry appears aimed at calming tensions and providing closure. Whether such a process will be initiated remains unclear, but the calls for transparency are growing louder.
For now, the debate around Raila Odinga’s death continues to shape political conversations across the country.
