- FKF has appointed Dennis Gicheru as Acting General Secretary and CEO.
- Gicheru takes over immediately as the federation awaits a full appointment.
- The move comes amid an unresolved court battle involving CEO Harold Ndege.
- FKF leadership and Ndege remain locked in a legal and governance dispute.
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has named Dennis Gicheru as its Acting General Secretary and Chief Executive Officer.
In an official announcement, the federation said Gicheru, who currently heads FKF’s Legal Affairs department, assumes the role with immediate effect until a permanent office holder is recruited.
Gicheru is an Advocate of the High Court and has been serving within FKF’s legal leadership.
The federation said his appointment is temporary and will last only until the position is formally advertised and filled.
The decision comes at a time when FKF is grappling with internal leadership tensions involving the substantive CEO, Harold Ndege.
In late 2025, FKF President Hussein Mohammed accused Ndege of serious misconduct, weak leadership, and failing to relay key summons from Parliament to the federation.
In January 2026, Ndege moved to court and secured orders blocking FKF from removing him from office.
He criticised the federation’s actions, calling them unprofessional, while FKF leaders defended their push for reforms, saying changes were needed to improve governance.
Despite a court order issued on January 9 stopping FKF from discussing or acting on Ndege’s removal, the federation went ahead and appointed Gicheru in an acting role.
This move further complicated the already tense situation within the football body.
Later in January, Ndege’s legal team questioned the validity of an affidavit filed by President Mohammed.
They argued that the document was improperly sworn, claiming it was commissioned in Kenya while the FKF President was allegedly outside the country.
As of February 6, the court is still reviewing the case.
This has left FKF in a rare situation where Harold Ndege remains the substantive CEO, while Dennis Gicheru continues to serve as Acting CEO pending a final legal outcome.
