The Board of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has formally appointed Eng. Luka Kipchumba Kimeli as the agency’s new Director General.
In a public notice issued on February 18, Board Chairperson Winfridah Ngumi said the appointment took effect on February 17, 2026. She noted that the decision was made in consultation with Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir.
According to the board, the selection followed a transparent and competitive recruitment process carried out in line with the Kenya Roads Act, 2007, and other public service regulations.
Kimeli has been holding the position in an acting capacity since July 11, 2025. He stepped into the role after the resignation of former Director General Eng. Kungu Ndungu.
At the time, the board confirmed it had accepted Ndungu’s resignation and appointed Kimeli to steer the authority on an interim basis starting on the same date. However, no reasons were made public regarding Ndungu’s departure.
With the latest announcement, Kimeli now takes over the role on a full-term basis.
The newly confirmed Director General brings 27 years of experience in infrastructure development and leadership within the roads sector.
His background includes strategic program management and oversight of major public sector projects. The board expressed confidence that his experience will help strengthen the authority’s performance and improve service delivery.
Ngumi said the board believes Kimeli has the capacity to guide KeNHA toward higher standards of accountability and efficiency.
She added that the authority remains committed to delivering safe, durable and modern highway infrastructure that supports national development and regional integration.
The board also congratulated Kimeli on his confirmation and pledged full support as he takes charge of the agency.
