- Eliud Owalo has revealed his personal wealth stands at about Ksh1 billion.
- The disclosure comes shortly after his exit from government.
- His net worth has grown since he joined the administration in 2022.
- Owalo says he is entering the 2027 race on a reform agenda.
Former Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo has stated that his current net worth is roughly Ksh1 billion.
He disclosed on Sunday night, February 1, 2026, during a television interview, saying the move was meant to show openness as he prepares for a presidential run in 2027.
Owalo’s remarks came only days after he stepped down from his role as Deputy Chief of Staff in President William Ruto’s administration.
His resignation marked the beginning of his open push for the country’s top office.
Although Owalo did not explain in detail how his wealth grew, records show a clear rise over the past few years.
When he joined the government in 2022, his declared net worth stood at Ksh645 million, meaning his assets have increased by about Ksh355 million.
During vetting by the National Assembly in October 2022, Owalo gave a breakdown of his assets.
He listed a Nairobi home valued at Ksh120 million, a rural residence worth Ksh70 million, and land upcountry estimated at Ksh200 million.
He also declared ownership of four vehicles valued at about Ksh15 million.
Owalo also revealed at the time that he owned a hotel project valued at Ksh80 million in its unfinished state, with a projected value of Ksh293 million upon completion.
In addition, he said he had invested heavily in commercial tree farming, estimating that venture to be worth around Ksh160 million.
The former political strategist to the late Raila Odinga has presented himself as a candidate focused on reforms, accountability, and economic change.
He has stressed that his campaign will be based on ideas and policies rather than ethnic alliances.
Owalo has also announced plans to launch his own political party before the end of February 2026.
