- Former Chief Justice David Maraga accuses President William Ruto of turning government into a “crime syndicate” misappropriating public funds.
- Maraga pledges that, if elected in 2027, all individuals found guilty of corruption will face jail, including allies or party members.
- He promises full transparency, strict adherence to the rule of law, and reforms in the health and education sectors.
Former Chief Justice and United Green Movement (UGM) leader, David Maraga, has sharply criticised President William Ruto’s government, alleging widespread corruption and mismanagement of public funds. Speaking on Thursday, February 26, Maraga said the current administration had “turned the government into a crime syndicate” that prioritises theft over service delivery.
He assured Kenyans that a government led by him would act decisively against graft. “If you give me a chance, I will stop the theft of public money immediately. Nobody will be spared, not even my friends, family, or party members, if found guilty of corruption,” Maraga stated.
Beyond anti-corruption, Maraga highlighted plans to revitalise key public services. He committed to improving medical care, ensuring hospitals are stocked with medicines, and guaranteeing that funds allocated for education reach schools.
He also revealed intentions to dismantle the Social Health Authority (SHA), arguing that it has failed to meet its mandate, leaving most Kenyans uninsured and limiting benefits for those enrolled.
Maraga urged citizens to register as voters in preparation for the 2027 general elections, stressing the importance of active participation in shaping Kenya’s future.
He further stated that while he is open to joining opposition coalitions to challenge President Ruto, such alliances must share his commitment to fighting corruption and upholding the Constitution.
The former Chief Justice framed his campaign around transparency, accountability, and justice. He emphasised that tackling corruption is not merely political but essential for national healing.
Maraga’s message sends a strong signal to voters that his leadership would prioritise integrity and the strict enforcement of the law across all levels of government.
