A clinical officer at Chemaner Health Centre in Bomet County, identified as Eric Langat, also known as Kirinyet, has been arrested for allegedly raping a pregnant woman. The incident is said to have taken place during a routine check-up at the facility.
Bomet East Sub-County Police Commander Michael Singa confirmed that the victim screamed for help while inside one of the rooms, drawing the attention of other patients and staff. Upon arrival, witnesses reportedly found the officer in a compromising situation, prompting him to flee the scene.
Following a formal report at Chemaner Police Station, security officers launched a manhunt. They later apprehended Langat at a hideout within the county.
The police, in collaboration with medical staff, ensured the victim underwent a full medical examination and received counselling at Longisa County Referral Hospital.
According to sources, Langat is believed to have been involved in two previous alleged rape cases. These were not reported, allegedly due to his connections with senior health administrators at the facility.
Police have stated that Langat will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information on the suspect’s alleged actions to come forward.
The case has sparked concern about patient safety at health facilities in the region, with calls for tighter oversight and accountability for medical personnel.
