Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has fired back at National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula following his call for ODM leaders to resolve internal disagreements.

Wanga said Wetang’ula should concentrate on strengthening Ford Kenya instead of commenting on issues within ODM. She added that public exchanges between parties only distract from serious political work.

“Focus on the dwindling fortunes of Ford Kenya,” Wanga stated.

The governor underlined the importance of unity and discipline as political parties prepare for future elections and alliance talks. She noted that each party should manage its own house without unnecessary public criticism.

According to Wanga, internal cohesion remains key as leaders engage in discussions around cooperation within the broad-based government.

Wetang’ula had earlier urged ODM leaders to urgently address their internal differences. He warned that continued infighting could weaken the party’s position in government and undo years of political sacrifice.

He said ODM was built through struggle and dedication, with Raila Odinga giving his life to shaping it as a platform for national change.

“What we are seeing in ODM is not good for a party that has been the backbone of the Opposition,” Wetang’ula said, adding that unity at the top was urgently needed.

The Speaker also reflected on Raila Odinga’s leadership style, describing him as a man who valued peace and dialogue even during heated political moments.

He recalled how Raila would personally reach out to rivals to ease tensions and restore calm.

“Raila was a peacemaker. Even when we disagreed politically, he would call me, and we would reconcile,” Wetang’ula said.

The exchange highlights growing tension as parties navigate power-sharing arrangements and future political plans. While Wetang’ula calls for unity within ODM, Wanga maintains that party matters should be handled internally, without outside pressure.
