Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL), through its popular Tusker brand, has announced a major Sh40 million sponsorship for the upcoming HSBC SVNS 2 Nairobi tournament.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, signaling strong corporate support as Kenya prepares to host a World Rugby Sevens international event for the very first time.

The tournament will take place on February 14 and 15 at Nyayo Stadium, placing Nairobi on the global rugby stage.

With this event, Kenya becomes only the second African country, after South Africa, to host a World Rugby Sevens competition.

The Nairobi leg will also open the HSBC SVNS 2 series, marking an important milestone for the country’s rugby journey.

Tusker’s sponsorship package is spread across several key areas to ensure a smooth and memorable event.

Out of the total amount, Sh20 million will go directly to the Kenya Rugby Union to support tournament operations and logistics.

An additional Sh12 million has been set aside to enhance the matchday experience for fans, while Sh8 million will support publicity and promotion efforts.

Speaking during the sponsorship unveiling at the RFUEA Grounds, KBL Nairobi Head of Mainstream Beer, Christine Kariuki, said the partnership reflects Tusker’s deep connection with Kenyan sports.

She noted that rugby has a special place in uniting people from different backgrounds, adding that hosting a global event in Nairobi is a proud moment for the country.

Kariuki said Tusker is keen on creating an atmosphere that brings people together and showcases Kenya’s ability to host world-class events.

The HSBC SVNS 2 Nairobi will feature high-level competition in both men’s and women’s categories.

Kenya’s national teams, Shujaa and the Kenya Lionesses, will compete on home soil against some of the best rugby sevens sides from around the world.

The event is part of World Rugby’s new three-level Sevens system, which aims to grow the sport while ensuring equal opportunities for men and women.

Tusker says its involvement goes beyond branding and visibility.

The company aims to support quality match delivery, improve fan engagement, and help grow rugby in Kenya.

Kariuki added that the goal is to make both players and supporters proud when the global rugby family arrives in Nairobi.

Kenya Rugby Union Chairperson Harriet Okatch praised Tusker for its continued backing of the sport.

She said strong partnerships are key to delivering a successful international tournament and expressed confidence that the collaboration will raise standards both on and off the field.

Okatch added that the union looks forward to hosting a memorable and well-organized event with Tusker on board.
