Endo Ward Member of County Assembly Jeremiah Kibiwott is dead. The news was confirmed by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen in a statement released on January 9.
CS Murkomen described the passing of the MCA as a painful loss to Endo Ward and the larger Elgeyo-Marakwet County, saying the region had lost a committed leader.
“My deepest condolences to the family, friends, and people of Endo Ward, Elgeyo-Marakwet County, following the passing of Member of County Assembly Hon. Jeremiah Biwott Toryebe,” Murkomen said.
The Interior CS praised Kibiwott for his dedication to public service, noting that his journey began in the classroom before moving into politics.
“Hon. Toryebe was a devoted leader who impacted many lives through selfless service, both as a teacher and later as an MCA,” Murkomen added.
He also pointed out the late MCA’s efforts in supporting peace and development in the Kerio Valley, a region that has faced repeated security challenges over the years.
“We will always remember his contribution to lasting peace and development in the Kerio Valley. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and all those mourning him,” Murkomen stated.
According to reports, Kibiwott passed away at Nairobi Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment following a long illness.
Elgeyo-Marakwet County Assembly Speaker Lawi Kibire also confirmed the death, terming it a major setback for the Assembly and the people of Endo Ward.
“It is with deep sorrow that I inform the public of the passing of Jeremiah Kibiwott Kiptum, the elected MCA for Endo Ward in Marakwet East Sub-County,” Kibire said.
The Speaker described the late MCA as hardworking and principled.
“He served the Assembly and his people with commitment, dedication, and a strong sense of responsibility,” he added.
Kibiwott’s death comes barely two weeks after Samburu County lost Porro Ward MCA Patrick Lerte, who died on December 28 while undergoing treatment at Samburu County Referral Hospital.
County Assembly Clerk Fred Lenapeer confirmed that Lerte had fallen ill briefly before his condition worsened.
The consecutive deaths have sparked concern across county governments regarding the health and well-being of elected leaders.
