- Jean-Philippe Mateta has informed Crystal Palace that he wants to move on
- The striker has 18 months left on his current contract
- Juventus and Aston Villa are among the clubs showing strong interest
- Palace is open to selling if its valuation is met
Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta has made it clear to the club that he is ready for a new challenge. The 28-year-old forward is attracting attention from several top teams in England and across Europe.
With no progress on a new deal, Mateta is expected to consider his options as the transfer window continues.
Mateta has about a year and a half remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park. At this stage, sources indicate he is not planning to extend his stay with the South London side.
This has placed Palace in a position where they may need to decide whether to sell now or risk losing him later for less.
Italian powerhouse Juventus have already attempted to sign the French striker this month. However, negotiations have stalled after Palace stood firm on their asking price, believed to be close to £40 million.
Aston Villa are also closely monitoring the situation. The Premier League side has admired Mateta for some time and remains keen on a possible deal.
Palace head coach Oliver Glasner recently admitted that the club is open to offers. He said any move would depend on whether interested teams meet the club’s valuation and whether the player is keen to go.
He made it clear that if the right offer does not come, Mateta will remain at the club.
Crystal Palace have already seen major departures in recent months. Creative midfielder Eberechi Eze left for Arsenal during the summer, while club captain Marc Guehi joined Manchester City in January for £20 million.
Despite lifting the FA Cup in May, Palace’s squad has been steadily weakened.
Adding to the uncertainty, Glasner has confirmed he will leave Palace at the end of the season. After a recent league defeat to Sunderland, he publicly criticised the club’s recruitment approach, saying the team had been left exposed.
His comments highlighted growing tension behind the scenes.
Palace’s struggles were made worse earlier this month when they suffered a stunning FA Cup exit to non-league Macclesfield. The loss was widely described as one of the biggest upsets in the competition’s history.
With Mateta pushing for an exit and leadership changes looming, Crystal Palace face a critical period. Whether the striker leaves now or stays until the summer may shape the club’s short-term future.
