Inspector General of Police (IG) Douglas Kanja has announced the creation of one new police station and five police posts across the country to enhance security and law enforcement services.
Kamuguga Police Station will now serve residents of Kiambu County, according to a gazette notice issued on Friday, January 23. The notice cites powers under Section 40(1) of the National Police Service Act as the legal basis for the designation.
Alongside the new station, five police posts have been established in strategic areas across Kenya:
Otonglo Police Post – Kisumu West, Kisumu County
Mabera Police Post – Kuria West, Migori County
Lagbogol Police Post – Wajir West, Wajir County
Gataka Police Post – Kajiado North, Kajiado County
Thuura Police Post – Imenti East, Meru County
These new posts aim to strengthen local policing, reduce crime, and improve emergency response in underserved regions.
The establishment of Kamuguga Police Station and the five posts continues a broader initiative by IG Kanja to expand police infrastructure across Kenya.
In August 2025, Kimuchu Police Station in Thika West Sub-county, Kiambu County, was created, along with Runda Mumwe Police Post in Kiambu East. Earlier in June 2026, three additional police facilities were gazetted in Nairobi and Turkana counties: Utalii Police Station in Ruaraka Sub-county, and Oropoi Police Station and Loreng Police Post in Turkana West.
These expansions reflect a sustained effort by the National Police Service to ensure that communities across the country have access to law enforcement resources and improved safety measures.
IG Kanja emphasised that the new establishments will serve as key hubs for policing activities, enabling officers to respond more quickly to incidents and enhance community engagement. The additions also aim to strengthen oversight in areas that have previously had limited police presence.
With these latest moves, the National Police Service continues to prioritise public safety and reinforce its presence in counties with limited security infrastructure, ensuring residents feel safer and that law enforcement is more accessible.
