- Rigathi Gachagua says the opposition is united ahead of the 2027 elections.
- Leaders met in Nairobi to review their political direction.
- He expressed confidence in Kenya’s future.
- Opposition figures later attended DP Kenya delegates’ meeting.
Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has said the United Opposition is working with one main goal, preparing Kenya for change ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The former deputy president spoke on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, after attending a consultative meeting held at the People’s Liberation Party headquarters in Nairobi.
Following the meeting, Gachagua shared his message through his social media platforms, saying he was encouraged by the unity shown by opposition leaders.
He stated that the country’s future remains promising, noting that the group is focused on building a strong path toward the August 10, 2027, polls.
According to Gachagua, all key figures within the United Opposition were present during the discussions.
He said the engagement strengthened trust among the leaders and reinforced their shared political mission moving forward.
Earlier in the day, Gachagua led a team of opposition leaders to the Democratic Party of Kenya National Delegates Conference held at Ufungamano House.
Among those present were Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, People’s Liberation Party’s Martha Karua, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, and Jubilee’s Fred Matiang’i.
Several MPs and senators aligned with the opposition also attended the gathering.
During the conference, DP Kenya leader Justin Muturi urged leaders to remain firm on constitutional rule, devolution, and protection of democratic freedoms.
He reminded the gathering that these values were achieved through years of struggle by Kenyans.
Gachagua later reflected on past elections, saying history shows the cost of political division.
He pointed out that the opposition lost in 1992 due to internal splits, while the unity witnessed in 2002 helped bring major political change.
According to him, the 2027 election must follow the path of unity rather than division.
The growing cooperation among opposition leaders signals plans to form a solid coalition ahead of the next elections.
As political activities increase across the country, the United Opposition says it is determined to remain together and present a strong challenge to the ruling UDA party.
