- Eliud Owalo has stepped down as Deputy Chief of Staff at State House.
- He resigned after declaring his intention to contest the presidency in 2027.
- Owalo said staying in office after announcing his bid would raise conflict concerns.
- His exit adds fresh momentum to the early 2027 election race.
Eliud Owalo has officially resigned from his position as Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Delivery and Government Efficiency. The move comes shortly after he publicly announced plans to run for president in the 2027 General Election.
In a statement shared on Sunday, Owalo explained that remaining in government after declaring his presidential ambitions would not be appropriate. He said the decision was necessary to respect the Constitution and to avoid any conflict of interest as the country slowly enters the election season.
Owalo had been serving at the Executive Office of the President, where he was responsible for tracking government performance and improving service delivery across ministries and state agencies. His role placed him at the centre of key government operations.
Before joining the President’s delivery team, Owalo served as Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication and the Digital Economy. During his time in the ministry, he played a key role in pushing digital reforms and strengthening government technology systems.
Owalo is widely viewed as an experienced technocrat with a strong political background. He has previously vied for elective office and has remained active in national politics for many years.
His entry into the 2027 presidential contest is expected to shape early political discussions, with more candidates likely to announce their ambitions in the coming months.
As of now, President William Ruto has not issued any public statement regarding Owalo’s resignation or his decision to seek the presidency.
