  • The Senate dismissed an impeachment motion against Nyamira Governor Nyaribo.
  • 38 senators supported the objection, while only 4 opposed it.
  • The motion was challenged for legal flaws and alleged fraud in the county assembly vote.
  • This marks Governor Nyaribo’s third consecutive victory against impeachment attempts.
  • Assembly leaders remain frustrated and are considering whether to pursue new grounds.

The motion, triggered by the Nyamira County Assembly on 11 November, was rejected after a decisive Senate vote.
Governor Nyaribo’s legal team, led by Elias Mutuma, argued that the motion was invalid.

They noted that only 19 members were physically present during the assembly vote, yet 23 votes were recorded. The use of proxy votes was dismissed as illegal and “numerically impossible.”

Governor Nyaribo has now survived three impeachment attempts: October 2023: MCA Josiah Mang’era brought 12 charges, but the motion failed with only 16 votes. September 2024: Nominated MCA Evans Matunda’s motion fell short by one vote, gaining 22 instead of the 23 needed. November 2025: The latest motion was blocked by the Senate with a 38-4 vote.

After the vote, Governor Nyaribo thanked the senators for “defending the rule of law” and vowed to focus fully on serving Nyamira residents.
Assembly leaders left Parliament frustrated, saying they would review the ruling before deciding whether to pursue fresh grounds for impeachment.

The repeated failure of impeachment motions highlights the high legal and political threshold governors face in Kenya. Ongoing tensions between Nyamira’s executive and ward representatives.
