  • More than 177,000 review requests were submitted within 48 hours.
  • Over 30,000 applications have already been processed by the ministry.
  • Category One school reviews are handled centrally in Nairobi.
  • Other school categories are managed by officers nationwide.

The Ministry of Education has received a huge number of requests from parents, guardians, and learners seeking changes to Grade 10 placements. Within just two days of opening the review window, more than 177,000 applications had already been submitted.

Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok said the response shows how seriously parents are taking senior school placement under the new system.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Bitok revealed that over 30,000 requests had already been reviewed and processed. He encouraged parents and learners to use the remaining days wisely to make any necessary adjustments to their school choices.

He stressed that the ministry is committed to ensuring every learner is placed fairly.

The PS explained that the review process has been structured to improve speed and efficiency. Requests involving Category One schools are being handled directly at the ministry headquarters in Nairobi.

For placements involving schools up to Cluster Four, the process has been decentralised and assigned to education officers across the country to avoid delays and congestion at the centre.

Bitok admitted that the placement system faced temporary technical issues on Tuesday. However, he assured parents that the problem had been fixed and that services were fully restored at the Konza data centre.

He said the ministry’s systems are now stable and fully operational.

The Principal Secretary urged parents and learners to remain calm, reminding them that the review period officially runs for seven days.

“Parents should be patient as the seven days commenced today for the revision. I urge everyone to use the time provided,” Bitok said.

The ministry opened the seven-day review window on Sunday, December 21, following the release of the first-ever Kenya Junior School Education Assessment results.

The review was introduced to address concerns from learners and parents who were unhappy with their initial senior school placements.

The KJSEA exams were conducted nationwide in November, with results released on December 11, 2025.

According to the Ministry of Education, the placement exercise is a key part of the Competency-Based Education system. The goal is to ensure learners move into schools that match their abilities, interests, and future career paths.

The system also aims to prepare students with skills that meet both local and global job market needs.
