Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga has declared that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is not satisfied with its current share in government and is pushing for a stronger position in future arrangements.

In a statement issued on Friday, December 19, 2025, Odinga responded to recent comments by President William Ruto on the direction of ODM, making it clear that the party expects more than symbolic inclusion.

Ruth Odinga said ODM’s role in government must reflect its political strength and support base across the country.

“We are not content with just two cabinet slots. We demand a greater stake in the next government,” her statement read.

She added that party members and supporters expect meaningful participation, not token positions.

Her comments follow remarks by President Ruto urging ODM to strengthen its internal party structures ahead of the 2027 elections. Many observers viewed the President’s message as a sign of deeper cooperation between the ruling side and the long-time opposition party.

ODM has traditionally positioned itself as a major opposition force, and any talk of cooperation has continued to divide opinion within the party on what fair participation should look like.

Ruth Odinga’s statement suggests ODM is open to engagement, but only on terms that guarantee real influence in decision-making. Anything less, she implied, would not meet the expectations of its supporters.

Her remarks place the party in a firm negotiating position as political realignments continue to take shape.

President Ruto, speaking earlier at the Piny Luo Festival in Migori County, appealed to ODM supporters to keep the party strong as the country moves closer to the 2027 General Election.

He hinted at possible deeper cooperation beyond the current broad-based agreement signed between him and the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in March 2025.

“I have stated that we will continue with our plans for this country. I know you people are ODM supporters. You have to make plans yourself and strengthen your ODM party,” Ruto said.

“We want a strong ODM so that we can plan together the leadership of this country. If you make your party strong, I will also make the UDA party strong, and we can then agree on how we will form the government,” he added.
