  • Musalia Mudavadi says Kenya needs a constitutional review 15 years on.
  • He proposes formalising the Prime Minister’s office and the Leader of the Opposition.
  • The move aims to improve inclusivity and representation of all regions.
  • Mudavadi believes clear leadership structures will reduce political tension.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has insisted that Kenya urgently needs to review its Constitution, now 15 years after its promulgation, saying time has revealed areas that require improvement.

According to Mudavadi, the country must be bold enough to reflect on what is working and what needs adjustment for the sake of stable and inclusive governance.

Mudavadi argues that Kenya should formally establish the Office of the Prime Minister and also recognise the Leader of the Official Opposition in the Constitution.

He noted that such positions would help create a more structured and balanced government, instead of leaving key leadership roles undefined or informal.

The Prime CS said formalising these offices would ensure that every region feels represented at the national level.

According to him, a clear government and opposition structure would reduce political tensions and help Kenyans see themselves reflected in leadership, regardless of who wins elections.

Mudavadi emphasised that Kenya needs a unified face of government, where leadership roles are clearly outlined and respected.

He believes constitutional reforms would strengthen governance, accountability, and national cohesion.
