  • Moses Kuria has pledged to buy a torch for Cyrus Jirongo’s burial.
  • The torch symbolises truth and the need for proper investigations.
  • Kuria says the gesture does not accuse anyone of wrongdoing.
  • He praised Jirongo’s political influence in the 1990s.

Jirongo was remembered as a generous leader devoted to the Mulembe Nation.

Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has added his voice to the growing calls for truth surrounding the death of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, pledging to personally provide a torch for his burial in line with Tiriki traditions.

While addressing mourners during a requiem mass held in Jirongo’s honour, Kuria said the torch carries deep meaning and should not be misunderstood.

“I want to support Judge Khaniri. We need a full investigation into anything that raises questions. This does not accuse anyone. I am ready to buy the torch because truth matters, and truth is not the same as blaming people,” Kuria told the congregation.

He stressed that the symbolic act is about accountability and clarity, not pointing fingers.

Kuria used the moment to reflect on Jirongo’s influence in the early 1990s, especially among student leaders during the era of former President Daniel Arap Moi.

“The year 1992 can easily be called the Jirongo year. As student leaders, even those who were radical and opposed to Moi’s government, our political journey was shaped by this man. He was very focused and determined,” Kuria recalled.

Beyond politics, Kuria described Jirongo as a generous man who always thought about the wider Mulembe Nation.

He noted that Jirongo believed money should be used to create opportunities rather than be hoarded.

“Jirongo never wanted money to sit idle. He believed money must be spent to open doors for more progress. He was generous by nature,” Kuria said.

Kuria added that whenever Jirongo received money or expected it, he would immediately start planning how it could benefit all 38 constituencies within the Mulembe region.
