Speaking at DCP headquarters in Nairobi while welcoming newly elected party leaders, Gachagua accused ODM leaders of selling the party to Ruto.
He claimed that Junet Mohamed and Homa Bay governor Gladys Wanga have already received a down payment from the President.
Gachagua pointed to Junet’s absence during Raila Odinga’s funeral as proof:
“Junet used to be with Raila throughout. But the day Raila died, he never went to collect his body. He reached the airport and pretended that he had gotten ill and remained behind to sell ODM. Those brokers have sold ODM,” he said.
Gachagua highlighted recent DCP and UDA wins: DCP victories: Narok Town and Kiza East. UDA victory: Purko Ward.
He used these results to argue that ODM’s historical strongholds are weakening:
“In Kisa East, you emerged number 9. In Kariobangi you emerged fourth. ODM is dead. Ruto has destroyed ODM, and we are very saddened,” Gachagua stated.
Gachagua cautioned ODM against allowing the alleged sale, suggesting it could reduce the party to a minor force confined to Luo Nyanza:
“If you allow ODM to be sold to Ruto by Junet and Wanga, you will remain a minority party. You will only get a few seats in Luo Nyanza.”
He also claimed that while he served as Ruto’s deputy, the President confided his intentions to weaken ODM.
