- Several rental houses were destroyed by fire in Kipkelion.
- The inferno started in one house and spread fast.
- Six goats and bags of maize were burnt.
- No injuries were reported.
- Residents affected by the disaster are seeking help to rebuild.
According to residents, the fire is believed to have started in one of the houses before quickly spreading to neighbouring structures. Most of the houses were built using timber and iron sheets, which made the flames spread faster.
By the time locals noticed the blaze, it had already grown out of control.
During the incident, six goats were burnt beyond recognition. In addition, several bags of maize and other household items were destroyed, dealing a major blow to the affected families.
Many residents reported that the losses amount to millions of shillings.
Members of the public rushed to the scene and tried to put out the fire, but their efforts were overwhelmed by the intensity of the flames. The dry weather conditions and easily combustible building materials made the situation worse.
The Kericho County fire brigade did not reach the area in time to contain the inferno.
Despite the massive destruction, no injuries or loss of life were reported, a relief to the affected community.
Residents are now appealing to well-wishers, leaders, and humanitarian groups to come to their aid as they begin the difficult journey of rebuilding their homes and livelihoods.
