Police in Migori County have opened investigations into the shocking death of a female Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer whose body was discovered on Christmas Day.
The deceased officer has been identified as Second Lieutenant Cynthia Awour Mboya, aged 28. Her lifeless body was found inside her matrimonial house in Nyahera Village, Suna East Sub-County, in the early hours of December 25.
At the time of her death, Cynthia was attached to Gilgil Barracks and was reportedly at home on a short pass leave.
Police officers who responded to the incident said they found Cynthia’s body lying on the floor in a pool of blood. Early observations revealed deep cut wounds and signs of strangulation, pointing to a possible struggle before her death.
Investigators believe the injuries suggest she may have fought with her attacker.
Although reports indicate that Cynthia was alone in the house at the time of the incident, her husband has been taken in for questioning as the investigation continues.
According to his statement to police, he arrived home at around 1:00 a.m. and noticed that the house windows were open. When he went to the bedroom, he allegedly found his wife lying on the floor.
Police also confirmed that two mobile phones, a Samsung handset and a Tecno Camon 12 Pro, were missing from the house. Officers believe the missing items could be key in piecing together the final moments before her death.
Cynthia’s body was later transferred to Migori County Referral Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Police say investigations are ongoing as they work to establish who was behind the killing and what may have motivated it.
