  • Nairobi motorists will continue paying the current Ksh300 daily parking fee.
  • City Hall dismissed rumours of an increase to Ksh520.
  • The disputed figure came from a cost analysis in the new Tariff and Pricing Policy 2025–2030.
  • Officials say any fee change must go through the Finance Act after public participation.

Nairobi motorists will keep paying the existing parking charges after the county government dismissed claims that fees would rise to Ksh520.
The rumours followed the release of the Tariff and Pricing Policy 2025–2030, which includes an internal estimate showing the county spends Ksh520 to provide each parking space.

Nairobi County Receiver of Revenue Tiras Njoroge said the document had been misinterpreted and does not introduce any new tariffs.
He emphasised that the policy is only a planning guide.

“Parking fees in Nairobi will remain unchanged,” Njoroge said.
“Any revision would require approval through the Finance Act after public participation and consideration of economic conditions.”

Njoroge added that Governor Johnson Sakaja’s administration is aware of the difficult economic situation and has no intention of increasing parking charges at the moment.

The Tariff and Pricing Policy aims to bring a transparent and consistent approach to how Nairobi reviews charges for county services.
It establishes a cost-based method covering areas such as markets, bus parks, health facilities, parking and business permits.

The Ksh520 figure represents the estimated full cost of maintaining one parking bay, including salaries, technology, enforcement and maintenance.
County officials said it is meant for future planning, not for immediate implementation.

The clarification has eased anxiety among drivers who had shared screenshots online suggesting a near 70% increase.
For now, fees remain at Ksh300 in the CBD and Ksh200 in other zones.
