Jumwa joined politics at a young age. She was elected councillor for Takaungu Ward in 1997.

She later rose to become Kilifi County Woman Representative and then Malindi MP. President William Ruto appointed her Cabinet Secretary for Public Service before moving her to the Gender docket.

In July 2024, she was dropped from the Cabinet during a reshuffle. Recently, the President appointed her chairperson of the Kenya Roads Board.
