Uhuru Kenyatta spoke with a solemn tone as he remembered Raila Odinga. He said the former Prime Minister’s absence left a gap across the nation. Raila’s vision and sacrifices, Uhuru noted, had shaped the country in a lasting way.
“Wanachama wa ODM, today, as we celebrate this milestone, my heart is heavy remembering my brother, friend, and compatriot, Raila Odinga. May his soul rest in peace,” Uhuru said.
Uhuru highlighted that Raila was not just a leader of ODM but the spirit behind Kenya’s pro-democracy movement. His courage, resilience, and refusal to give up shaped both the party and the nation over decades of activism.
“Baba was not just a leader of ODM. He was the spirit of his struggle. His courage, resilience, and selflessness shaped not just the justice movement, but Kenya’s political evolution,” he added.
Uhuru urged ODM members to remain committed to Raila’s principles. He called on the party to push for fairness, inclusion, and accountability, aiming for a country free from hunger, inequality, and injustice.
He expressed hope that ODM’s future would reflect growth while staying true to Raila’s mission. The anniversary also saw tributes from Raila’s children, Raila Junior and EALA MP Winnie Odinga, and the presence of founding members, including President William Ruto.
