- Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga will be buried on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at his ancestral home in Bondo, Siaya County.
- His family requested a 72-hour burial window in line with his wishes.
- The government will coordinate with the family to ensure a dignified State Funeral.
- Public viewings will be held in Nairobi and Kisumu before the burial.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki confirmed on Wednesday that the government had received a formal request from Raila Odinga’s family to allow a 72-hour burial period in accordance with the late leader’s wishes.
“We have received the request from the family to proceed with the burial within 72 hours. The government will work closely with the family to ensure a dignified farewell for the late Prime Minister,” said Kindiki.
Kindiki clarified that while the 72-hour window technically ends on Saturday, logistical challenges, including the repatriation of the body from India, necessitated a slight adjustment.
Raila’s body is expected to arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) at 8:30 a.m. and will be received by President William Ruto alongside family members.
It will then be taken to Lee Funeral Home before being moved to Parliament Buildings, where the public will view the body from 12 noon to 5 p.m. The body will later return to Lee Funeral Home overnight.
On Friday, a State Funeral service will be held at Nyayo Stadium starting at 8 a.m., attended by dignitaries, family, and citizens. The body will then rest overnight at his Karen residence.
On Saturday, Raila’s body will travel to Kisumu, where a public viewing will take place at Moi Stadium from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., before proceeding to Bondo for an overnight stay.
Raila Odinga will be laid to rest on Sunday, October 19, at his family’s Opoda Farm in Kango Ka Jaramogi, beside the graves of his late father Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and son Fidel Odinga. The burial will follow Anglican Church traditions, reflecting his faith and lifelong commitment to his community.
