- The company says the measure aims to recover overdue arrears and sustain water services in Nairobi.
The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) has announced a large-scale water disconnection exercise targeting customers with unpaid bills.
In a notice issued on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, the company said the exercise will officially begin on October 15 and will affect all categories of consumers.
“The Company wishes to inform the general public that a water disconnection exercise will commence on 15th October 2025 as a decisive enforcement measure to recover overdue arrears from all defaulting consumers,” NCWSC stated.
The disconnection campaign will cover ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), county governments, commercial entities, water service providers, and domestic consumers.
According to the company, the decision follows repeated notices and reminders to defaulters.
“The exercise will cut across all categories of consumers in a bid to secure revenue recovery and safeguard the sustainability of both bulk and retail water service provision,” read part of the statement.
NCWSC said it had exhausted all engagement channels and found disconnections necessary to ensure continued service delivery.
The company urged customers to clear all pending bills immediately to avoid losing access to water, adding that reconnections will only be processed after full payment.
“We therefore urge all affected parties to treat this notice with utmost urgency and take immediate corrective action. For clarification and customer support, please contact NCWSC,” the notice added.
This announcement comes just days after NCWSC issued a notice on October 3 about a temporary water supply disruption affecting several areas in Nairobi.
The company explained that the disruption was due to interconnection works on the Kigoro–Gigiri–Kabete water pipeline at the Gigiri Pumping Station and Reservoir, which ran from Friday, October 3, 6:00 a.m. to Saturday, October 4, 8:00 a.m.
The affected areas included Westlands, Lavington, Kileleshwa, Kilimani, Kawangware, Dagoretti, Uthiru, Ngong Road, Upper Hill, Kibera, and Highrise.
