  • Police Constable Ramadhan Khamisi Matanka was killed in a bow-and-arrow attack.
  • The assailant, 56-year-old Kinyuka Kinyumi, disguised himself as a street dweller.
  • The attack happened during a routine GSU security check near Dennis Pritt Road.
  • The suspect was subdued and arrested on the spot.
  • He claimed he was “sent by Satan” to commit the assault.

A police officer attached to the General Service Unit (GSU) was fatally speared by a man armed with a bow and arrow during a morning operation along Dennis Pritt Road in Nairobi.

The victim, Constable Ramadhan Khamisi Matanka, was on duty conducting routine security checks when the attacker struck at around 8:15 am.

According to police reports, the assailant, identified as Kinyuka Kinyumi, 56, suddenly drew a bow and shot the officer, hitting him on the left side of the chest. Matanka was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing emergency treatment.

Witnesses said the suspect approached the area disguised as a street dweller carrying a sack. He reportedly hid behind a flower bed near the gate before launching the fatal attack.

Other officers at the scene immediately subdued and arrested him.

Police sources revealed that during interrogation, Kinyumi claimed he had been “sent by Satan” to carry out the act.

Senior officers led by Kilimani Sub-County Police Commander Patricia Yegon and DCI boss Hussein Mahat visited both the crime scene and the hospital. Investigations are ongoing to establish the suspect’s mental state and motive behind the assault.

The attack occurred near a sensitive security zone, raising questions about presidential and state protection.

The G-Company, a Presidential Guard sub-unit of the GSU, provides security at the State House and official residences across the country.
The Recce Squad, an elite GSU arm, also protects the President, First Family, and critical government installations.

The Presidential Escort Unit (PEU) manages the President’s movement and close protection, often working jointly with GSU officers.

Additionally, National Intelligence Service (NIS) operatives and regular police officers form part of the broader protective network. During high-risk national events, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and bomb disposal experts are also deployed to secure the Head of State.

The tragic death of Constable Matanka has sparked renewed discussion on security threats near protected zones and the mental health of assailants targeting officers on duty, as investigations into the chilling incident continue.
