  • Rigathi Gachagua told Ukambani residents that unity without voter registration is meaningless.
  • He urged the region to register at least 4.5 million voters ahead of the 2027 elections.
  • The former DP said the alliance between Ukambani and Central Kenya will depend on voter numbers.
  • He cautioned President Ruto against making fun of Kalonzo Musyoka while seeking his support.
  • Gachagua reaffirmed his role as the official spokesman of the United Opposition.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has cautioned residents of Ukambani against uniting under the United Loyal Opposition without backing it up through massive voter registration.

Speaking in Matuu on Monday, October 6, 2025, Gachagua reminded locals that their alliance would only succeed if they strengthened their voter base.

“Kalonzo will go nowhere if you do not register as voters. Here in Ukambani, we want you to register 4.5 million. If you do that, leave the other work for me,” he said.

Gachagua further emphasised his desire for Ukambani and Central Kenya to work together to unseat President William Ruto in the 2027 elections.

He told residents that their love for Kalonzo Musyoka would mean nothing if not reflected in the ballot.

“Even if you love Kalonzo, love without votes is useless. We want to work with you, but the relationship will be based on registering as voters,” he stated.

He encouraged locals from Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, and Taita Taveta to collect their voter cards, promising that such an effort would restore Kalonzo’s political dignity.

The former DP also aimed at President Ruto, urging him to stop mocking Kalonzo Musyoka while still seeking his support.

“Ruto ridiculed Kalonzo, saying he is a mere dengu farmer. I want to tell him to leave Kalonzo alone. He is not available for you,” Gachagua remarked.

Reaffirming his leadership within the United Opposition, Gachagua declared himself the official spokesperson of the coalition, insisting they were ready to challenge Ruto’s administration.

“We have come here as a family of cousins. I am the spokesman of this family. You go and find your own family,” he said confidently.

Gachagua’s message left no doubt that Ukambani’s unity must be backed by action at the ballot box, not mere declarations.
