Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has been appointed to the FIFA Institutional Relations Committee, marking a major milestone as Kenya joins one of FIFA’s top-level standing committees for the first time.
Hussein expressed deep gratitude to FIFA for the recognition, saying it affirms Kenya’s growing influence and commitment to improving football locally and regionally.
“My gratitude to the team at FIFA for trusting Kenya with this critical position,” he said.
“It is the first time for Kenya to be in these committees at the global level, and we have shown our dedication to improving football standards not only for Kenya but also across the region.”
The FKF boss described his appointment as a major step forward for the country’s football development. He noted that the new role will allow Kenya to participate directly in shaping global football policies and strengthen its engagement with other football institutions.
“We will put our best foot forward,” Hussein affirmed, adding that he intends to use the platform to advance the interests of Kenya and the African continent.
Hussein now joins a small group of influential football administrators serving under FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
The FIFA Institutional Relations Committee plays a key role in managing relations between FIFA, its member associations, confederations, and other stakeholders. It also advises on governance matters to enhance transparency, cooperation, and institutional integrity in global football.
The appointment comes at a time when Kenyan football is rebuilding after years of administrative turbulence, signalling a renewed phase of progress and credibility.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya congratulated Hussein, describing the appointment as a historic moment for Kenya and the CECAFA region.
“This historic milestone marks a proud moment for Kenya and the CECAFA region,” Mvurya said.
“It reflects Kenya’s rising stature in global football administration and underscores our shared commitment to good governance and international collaboration in the sport.”
Mvurya also extended congratulations to Abdalla Yusuf Ibrahim, an FKF National Executive Committee member and President of Donholm Seniors FC, for his appointment to FIFA’s Stadium and Security Committee.
He said the two appointments show Kenya’s growing recognition on the world stage, reaffirming the nation’s ambition to play a greater role in shaping global football’s future.
