Mount Kenya politics have once again turned heated after DCP Deputy Leader Cleophas Malala accused the Jubilee Party of trying to divide the region. Malala argued that the Uhuru-led outfit was working to weaken Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s influence and disrupt the unity DCP is seeking to build.
“Jubilee is working overtime to divide our party and destabilise Rigathi Gachagua’s political base in Mt Kenya,” Malala said.
Responding to the claims, Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba dismissed the accusations and stood in strong defence of Uhuru Kenyatta. She said Mt. Kenya votes have never belonged to one party or one politician.
“Before DCP, there were Jubilee, UDA, DP and others. Nobody owns the Mountain vote. We said before: hatupangwingwi,” she stated.
Wamuchomba credited Kenyatta’s decade in office as a time of stable leadership despite challenges. She called him the undisputed regional kingpin, stressing that his role was never forced.
“He unified the country. He is free to bless anyone to succeed him, even if it is not me,” she said.
Turning her fire on Kenya Kwanza leaders, Wamuchomba questioned why those who once attacked Uhuru now want to inherit his political party.
“If you truly believe what you said about him during your swearing-in, why do you want his party? Inheritance is not by force. If you attack Uhuru, you attack Kiambu, and we are watching,” she warned.
She further dismissed claims that Uhuru betrayed the region by working with leaders like Fred Matiang’i. According to her, every Kenyan has the right to form and participate in political associations.
“Kiambu is not a colony of Nyeri. With respect, this trajectory of disrespect must stop,” she declared, calling on Malala and others to stop what she termed as careless talk.
Backing her, Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni also defended Kenyatta, saying his continued role in national politics remains legitimate and necessary.
