Residents of Kikuyu Town, Kiambu County, were shocked after a fight between two students at the University of Nairobi, Kikuyu Campus, ended in death.

Police said the incident involved Brian Wambui, a third-year student, who was fatally stabbed by his roommate following a quarrel over bathroom use.

Witnesses noted that the two had been arguing over who should flush and clean the hostel toilet. The disagreement quickly turned violent.

According to DCI officer Omondi Ogola, the quarrel escalated when friends of the deceased joined in. The suspect then rushed to their room, returned with a weapon, and stabbed Wambui.

The body was taken to PCEA Thogoto Hospital mortuary for post-mortem, while the suspect, Justus Otieno, remains in custody awaiting investigations and arraignment.

Officer Ogola urged students and the public to embrace dialogue and peaceful methods of solving disputes instead of resorting to violence, warning that minor disagreements can lead to deadly consequences.

In a separate incident, police in Tana River County are investigating the murder of Kahindi Randu, 51, in Hurara village, Tarassa.

The man was attacked alongside his wife while they slept outside their house on the night of September 1, 2025.

Police said five men stormed the homestead, demanding to know the whereabouts of missing cows. The attackers inflicted deep cuts on Kahindi’s head and back, killing him as he tried to flee. His wife sustained serious injuries.

The body was later moved to the mortuary for autopsy, while investigations continue.

Police revealed that many murder cases reported in the region are tied to land wrangles or livestock theft. So far, no arrests have been made in connection with the Hurara killing.
