Former Spain and Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets has announced he will hang up his boots at the end of the Major League Soccer season in December. The Inter Miami midfielder said it was the right time to step away after nearly two decades in the game.

In a video shared on social media, Busquets reflected on his career with gratitude.

“I feel like the time has come to say goodbye to my career as a professional footballer. It’s been almost 20 years of enjoying this incredible story I always dreamed of. I’m retiring very happy, proud, fulfilled, and above all, grateful. Thank you all very much, see you soon.”

Busquets joined Barcelona’s youth system in 2005, before breaking into the senior team under Pep Guardiola in 2008. He went on to make 722 appearances – the third-highest in the club’s history – and collected 32 major trophies.

Among his honours were 9 La Liga titles, 3 Champions League trophies, and several domestic cups, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest holding midfielders of all time.
