- Turkana set for new road upgrade to boost trade.
- Billions invested in electrification, irrigation, and farming.
- Lodwar to host a modern stadium and an improved referral hospital.
- The fisheries sector gets two new markets worth Sh700m.
- Students to benefit from new hostels worth Sh2.3b.
President William Ruto has promised that the government will prioritise infrastructure to connect Turkana with the rest of the country. A major step will be the rehabilitation of the Maili Tisa–Kitale–Kainuk–Lokichar Road, a busy transport route that will make trade easier and link farmers to bigger markets.
Alongside roads, the government will pump Sh2.3 billion into rural electrification. The programme aims to bring power to villages, homes, and small businesses across the county.
Food production is also part of the plan. President Ruto announced Sh2.5 billion for the expansion of the Turkwel Irrigation Scheme. Once complete, more than 100,000 acres of land will be under cultivation, strengthening food security for the county and beyond.
To support youth talent, Lodwar town will soon have a Sh900 million stadium. The facility is expected to host sports activities and nurture young athletes from the region.
Ruto also turned his focus to the fishing community. Two modern fish markets worth Sh700 million will be constructed to support the sector and open more opportunities for local fishermen.
The President further revealed plans to put up modern hostels for learners in universities and colleges. The Sh2.3 billion project will provide safe, decent accommodation for students.
Healthcare will also receive a big lift. Lodwar County Referral Hospital is set for upgrades and better equipment to improve service delivery. Ruto also urged local leaders to help register more residents under the Social Health Authority (SHA) for affordable healthcare.
Speaking at State House, Nairobi, during a meeting with grassroots leaders, the President said these projects will open up Turkana for agriculture, sports, and economic growth.
