The National Police Service (NPS) has confirmed the death of a Kenyan police officer who was part of the Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti.
According to the NPS, the accident occurred on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at about 5:00 p.m. Haitian time (2:00 a.m. Monday, Kenyan time) along the Kenscoff-Pétion-Ville Road in the Pèlerin 9 area. The officer was involved in a recovery operation with two MaxxPro vehicles when the crash happened.
The accident claimed the lives of two civilians and left eight MSS officers injured. Three of the injured are in critical condition and are receiving treatment in the hospital.
The NPS confirmed it had already notified the fallen officer’s family.
“We assure them of our unwavering support during this time of profound sorrow,” the NPS said in a statement.
The MSS, in coordination with the Haitian National Police, is arranging for the repatriation of the officer’s body to Kenya. The injured personnel are under medical care.
The NPS reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to the Haiti peace mission, stating the country will continue to support international efforts to restore security in the Caribbean nation.
