The Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) has confirmed that two Kenyan officers injured in a Haitian road accident remain under medical care but are out of danger. The reassurance comes days after the tragic loss of Corporal Kennedy Mutuku Nzuve in the same incident.

The accident happened on 31 August along the Kenscoff–Pétion-Ville road at Perlerin 9 around 5 pm. MSS reported that one MaxxPro armoured vehicle developed a mechanical fault while towing another. The collision killed Corporal Nzuve, a civilian, and left eight officers injured.

While most are recovering, three officers remain in serious condition and are set to be flown to the Dominican Republic for specialised treatment.

Haitian National Police (PNH) Director General André Jonas Vladimir Paraison sent his condolences to the mission’s leadership and later visited the MSS base at LSA1. He was received by Deputy Force Commander Colonel Eldon Morgan, who said the visit reflected the “strong partnership” between PNH and MSS.

On 1 September, colleagues from Kenya, the Bahamas, Jamaica, El Salvador, and Guatemala joined contractors from DMG, Amentum, Aspen, and Garda World to honour Corporal Nzuve. A memorial service was held at the MSS main dining hall in LSA1 before his remains were flown to the Dominican Republic for preservation.

Corporal Nzuve’s sacrifice has been highlighted as part of Kenya’s leading role in the UN-backed mission seeking to restore order in Haiti, a country facing escalating gang violence. His colleagues remembered him as a dedicated officer whose service will be honoured both at home and abroad.
