Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) leader Kalonzo Musyoka has made it clear that he will not be anyone’s running mate in the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Thursday, September 25, Kalonzo said his long years in politics cannot be reduced to playing second fiddle again.
“I don’t think I would be a running mate in 2027. It is too late for games to be played against me. I have sacrificed enough, but I cannot sacrifice further,” he said.
The former Vice President said the coming election will be the most important chapter of his career. He stressed that this is his moment to fight for the presidency.
“I am going for the presidency. It is now or never. If I get the chance from my colleagues to lead, I will not disappoint,” Kalonzo stated.
Kalonzo also brushed aside claims that he is negotiating with President William Ruto for a running mate slot in 2027.
“I have made it very clear, never. There is no such thing. It will not happen. It will be William Ruto versus Kalonzo Musyoka,” he affirmed.
He also rejected any possibility of joining Ruto’s government through an appointment, saying his loyalty lies with the people.
“No way, not Kalonzo Musyoka. I will not take any job. There hasn’t been an offer, and I hope there will be none. I choose to remain with Kenyans,” he added.
The Wiper leader recently dismissed reports that he had stepped out of the 2027 presidential race.
Speaking on Friday, September 19, Kalonzo said the rumours were the work of his rivals who fear his candidacy.
“When did these claims of me stepping down start? My enemies know I will be on the ballot in 2027,” he said.
Separately, Kalonzo confirmed that he will not attend ODM’s 20th anniversary celebrations set for October 10 despite receiving a personal invitation from Raila Odinga.
He explained that the date clashes with the National Delegates Congress of his Wiper Patriotic Front party.
“Raila invited me with a very nice letter, but I will have to skip because on that same date, Wiper will be holding its National Delegates Congress,” he said.
Even so, Kalonzo sent goodwill wishes to ODM and its leader as they mark the milestone.
“I wish them well. I hear William Ruto will also be invited, but I will not be there,” he added.
