Buzeki Crosses Over to UDA After Years of Criticism

  • Businessman Bundotich Zedekiah Kiprop (Buzeki) has joined UDA.
  • He was received by Secretary General Hassan Omar and Executive Director Nicodemus Bore at party HQ in Nairobi.
  • Once a strong critic of President Ruto, he now praises his leadership.
  • Buzeki pledges to back Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid.
  • He previously lost Uasin Gishu governor races in 2017 and 2022.

On Thursday morning, businessman Bundotich Zedekiah Kiprop, better known as Buzeki, arrived at the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) headquarters in Kilimani, Nairobi. Accompanied by a group of supporters, he was received by Secretary General Hassan Omar and Executive Director Nicodemus Bore.

“I want to thank the UDA Party for accepting us to be members. I have completed my registration and been received warmly, and I am now officially a member of UDA.”

Buzeki’s move marks a dramatic shift. Once one of the sharpest critics of President Ruto, he now commends the head of state for what he called transformative leadership. He pledged to vigorously support Ruto’s re-election campaign in 2027, saying he was convinced the country was headed in the right direction.

Buzeki is not new to the political arena. He twice contested the Uasin Gishu gubernatorial seat – first in 2017, losing to Jackson Mandago, and again in 2022, when he narrowly lost to Jonathan Bii while running as an independent.

His latest move is seen as an attempt to consolidate his political future within the ruling party.
