American YouTuber J Rello has decided to cut short his Kenyan visit after sparking fury with comments about women in Nairobi. The Atlanta-born content creator went viral during the week after he shared a video downplaying the city’s nightlife. In the clip, he suggested that Kenya “lacks pretty women” and described Nairobi’s social life as “boring and disappointing.”

The video quickly drew angry reactions from Kenyans. Many accused him of being disrespectful, tone-deaf, and promoting what they described as “sex tourism attitudes.” Within hours, his social media pages were flooded with backlash, with some fans telling him to leave if he did not respect the country.

The criticism grew so intense that Rello admitted he was forced to remain indoors. He revealed he had been “hiding in [his] Airbnb” as the online attacks increased. Shortly after, he announced that he had already booked a flight out of Kenya.

Before leaving, he shared a final message to his followers:

“I’d rather face rejection from women in Atlanta than stay here.”

Rello’s comments and quick exit have opened wider discussions online about respect for host nations and the dangers of creating controversy just for attention. Many have argued that his remarks are a reminder that cultural sensitivity is key, especially for influencers travelling abroad.
