Kapsabet town was filled with joy as thousands came together for the ordination of Bishop Lelei. The milestone event was held today, Saturday, August 30, at the Eliud Kipchoge Sports Complex. The ceremony was led by the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya, Archbishop Hurbertus Maria van Megen, joined by Archbishop Dominic Kimengich of Eldoret and bishops from across the country.
President William Ruto and several dignitaries also attended the Holy Mass, marking the occasion as one of the most significant Catholic events in the region.
The celebration started on Friday, August 29, with a colourful procession and vigil prayers at Kapsabet Catholic Church. Worship sessions by choirs, youth groups, and women’s guilds created a spiritual atmosphere as the faithful prepared for the big day.
The festivities will end on Sunday, August 31, with a Thanksgiving Mass at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. A cultural celebration will follow, featuring traditional Nandi dances, youth choirs, and musical performances to honour the new bishop.
