  • Former Arsenal player Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one of sexual assault.
  • The incidents are said to involve three women and reportedly happened between 2021 and 2022.
  • Partey, 32, denies the charges and says he looks forward to clearing his name.
  • His contract with Arsenal officially ended on June 30, 2025.

Former Arsenal and Ghana international midfielder Thomas Partey is now facing five charges of rape and one of sexual assault, according to the UK Metropolitan Police. The reported offences allegedly took place between 2021 and 2022.

The police say the case involves three different women, with two charges tied to one, three linked to another, and one charge of sexual assault connected to the third.

Through his lawyer Jenny Wiltshire, Partey has denied all accusations and expressed confidence that he will clear his name in court.

“He has fully cooperated with investigations over the last three years and now welcomes the chance to prove his innocence,” the statement read.

The case goes back to February 2022, when police received the initial complaint. A detailed investigation has followed since then, leading to these charges. The 32-year-old midfielder lives in Hertfordshire and is now scheduled to appear in court on August 5.

Arsenal Confirm Exit, Remain Silent on Charges

Partey’s contract with Arsenal ended on June 30, the club confirmed. He had joined the team in October 2020 from Atletico Madrid for £45.3 million.

“Due to the ongoing legal case, we are unable to give any comment,” said an Arsenal spokesperson.

Both the Premier League and the Football Association (FA) also declined to speak on the matter.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is heading the case, said the main concern remains the well-being of the women involved.

“If anyone else has been affected or holds any information, please come forward and speak to our officers,” he said.

The police have asked the public to contact them directly at CIT@met.police.uk if they wish to assist in the case.

Before his exit, Partey played 130 matches for Arsenal, scoring 9 goals. He featured in the Champions League and helped the club reach the semi-finals, where they were knocked out by PSG.

In the 2024/25 season, he made 35 Premier League appearances, scoring four goals as the Gunners finished second.

Internationally, he has over 50 caps for Ghana and played in World Cup qualifiers as recently as March.
