Arsenal have now completed the signing of prolific striker Viktor Gyokeres from Portuguese champions Sporting Lisbon. The transfer, valued at £63.5 million, had faced slight delays as both clubs negotiated add-ons, but the deal is now fully sealed.
The Swedish star has put pen to paper on a five-year deal with the Gunners.
Bringing in a proven goal scorer was at the top of Mikel Arteta’s summer wishlist. After struggling to convert chances last season and finishing 10 points behind Liverpool, Arsenal needed a striker who could deliver consistently.
With Gyokeres now on board, the Gunners are finally addressing that gap.
Gyokeres had an outstanding run in Portugal, finding the net 54 times in 52 appearances last season alone. Over two seasons with Sporting, he registered an incredible 97 goals in 102 games and played a major part in back-to-back league titles.
His scoring record made him one of the most talked-about forwards in Europe this summer.
Initially, Arsenal had their sights on Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig. But with that move falling through, they quickly shifted attention to Gyokeres, and it seems to have paid off.
This deal comes just days after Arsenal secured the services of England winger Noni Madueke from Chelsea. The 23-year-old adds more pace and flair to Arsenal’s wide options, as Arteta looks to build a stronger attacking front.
Before his success in Portugal, Gyokeres was already making headlines in the English Championship with Coventry City. He scored 43 goals in 116 matches and earned a spot in the Championship Team of the Year during the 2022/23 season.
That same summer, he made his move to Sporting for around £20 million, a decision that paid off.
Gyokeres isn’t just shining at club level. Since making his Sweden debut in 2019, he’s picked up 26 caps and netted 15 goals for the national team. His performances on the international stage add to the growing excitement around his arrival at Arsenal.
