Liverpool have officially secured the signing of Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt in a big-money deal worth £79 million, with £69 million guaranteed and £10 million tied to performance-related bonuses.
The 23-year-old French striker passed his medical, signed personal terms, and will fly out to join Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Asia later this week.
Ekitike becomes the latest addition in a massive summer spree by the Reds, which now sees their total spend surpass £250 million. The club had already broken records by signing Florian Wirtz for £116 million, along with defensive reinforcements Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong for a combined £70 million.
Newcastle United had a £70 million bid rejected earlier this month, but it was Liverpool who moved quickly to wrap up the deal. The Reds had also shown interest in Alexander Isak, but ultimately chose Ekitike.
Last season, Ekitike was one of the Bundesliga’s standout performers, netting 15 goals and registering 8 assists in 31 starts. He topped the league with 117 shots on goal, showcasing his confidence and attacking threat.
“Hugo has developed tremendously in his one and a half years with us… We are delighted that he can now take the next step – a step he has earned.”
— Frankfurt Sporting Director Markus Krosche
