A quiet village in Mabera, Migori County, has been left reeling after a man allegedly killed his own daughter before taking his life in a heartbreaking turn of events.
The incident occurred on the morning of Wednesday, July 16, in Nyawaitanchira village. Police say the suspect, identified as Thomas Chacha, grabbed his five-year-old daughter and threw her into a 40-foot borehole within their homestead.
Family members who witnessed the terrifying act rushed to rescue the girl, but sadly, she had already died by the time her body was retrieved.
As the family came to terms with the tragedy, Thomas reportedly returned to the house unnoticed and hanged himself using a rope.
Local authorities confirmed that both bodies have since been moved to a nearby mortuary, where post-mortem examinations and investigations are expected to be conducted.
The motive behind the act remains unknown, though the tragedy has sparked renewed concern over the rising cases of mental health struggles in rural households.
