With only four days remaining before Harambee Stars kick off their CHAN 2024 campaign, coach Benny McCarthy has made three key last-minute changes to his squad, further adjusting the team just before their crucial Group A match against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Key Players Dropped
Mohamed Bajaber, forward for Police FC, has been dropped from the squad after signing for Simba.
His teammate Brian Musa and Swaleh Pamba, a defender from Bandari FC, have also been excluded.
This brings the total number of key players leaving the squad in the last two weeks to five, shaking up the team’s preparations.
New Call-Ups
In place of the dropped players, McCarthy has called up: Brian Michira from Shabana FC, Crispin Erambo from Tusker FC Edward Omondi from Sofapaka FC
The new players are expected to report to the training camp immediately as the final preparations intensify ahead of the tournament.
Reasons Behind the Changes
Though McCarthy hasn’t officially explained the reasons behind these sudden changes, sources close to the technical bench have hinted that the adjustments could be related to a mix of Player form, Tactical decisions, and Internal discipline matters
A source mentioned, “These are difficult decisions, but Benny wants players who can handle the pressure and execute his vision on the pitch.”
The Harambee Stars will face the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday, August 3rd at Kasarani Stadium. The match is expected to be a highly competitive and intense encounter as Kenya aims to perform well in Group A, where they will also face Morocco, Zambia and Angola.
As McCarthy continues to reshape the squad, all eyes will be on the new line-up to see how they perform under his leadership. The coach’s goal is to guide Kenya to its best-ever performance in the tournament, which features players active in domestic leagues. Fans and pundits alike will be keen to see if the changes will pay off in this important clash.
