Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia FC have been flooded with interest in their search for a new head coach, receiving 148 formal applications, including from Europe-based tacticians and former club coaches.
The head coach role is part of a wider recruitment effort targeting eight key positions, which collectively attracted 539 applicants by the July 10 deadline.
According to Secretary General Nick Arum, the club has completed initial vetting and 311 applications were found valid. The rest were disqualified due to incomplete submissions, language issues, missing qualifications, or duplicate entries.
“We are now reviewing 247 shortlisted candidates across all roles. Time is of the essence—we must begin pre-season preparations in time without delay,” said Arum.
Apart from the head coach job, the other positions that received interest include: Assistant Coach (21 applicants), Goalkeeper CoachTeam DoctorPhysiotherapistTeam ManagerStrength & Conditioning CoachChief Executive Officer
Arum stated that while the club aims to hire the best, financial limitations will affect final choices. “Some applicants may have expectations beyond what the club can accommodate,” he noted.
Reliable sources have disclosed that two former Gor Mahia head coaches and three former AFC Leopards tacticians are among those eyeing the top bench job.
This opens the possibility of familiar names returning to the Kenyan football scene as Gor Mahia plots another dominant season.
The club, which is also in the process of signing five new players, is expected to unveil its new technical bench in the coming days. The goal is to ensure a smooth start to pre-season training for the 2025/26 season.
Gor Mahia continues to pursue both stability and excellence as it seeks to maintain its place at the top of Kenyan football.
